Our Focus

What a year it has been, especially these last few months. Between THE VIRUS (OMG WE’RE ALL DEAD !!!1111!! askfnlkfnbkjafbnakjsnb), the election and all the strife you could be forgiven for voting for the Sweet Meteor Of Death (SMOD). The downside of all this is that we are losing our focus and driving ourselves insane. I speak as someone who has made the mistake of sometimes looking at the media’s reports on events and began to wonder why I had bothered praying at all.
It reminded me that I need to change my focus and I believe many others need to hear this as well. Our focus needs to be on God in this moment. My mother, Hannah Hunter is a prime example of this for me. She follows God’s word and goes to another country (Kenya) half the world away simply because He told her to. She leaves behind her family and all she has known to be with people whose culture is so different from her own.
I say this because it can be so very overwhelming for her; I know because I am fortunate enough that she trusts me enough to confide and talk to me when she needs to vent or encouragement. She sees and experiences things that are so far beyond most of our experience that we wouldn’t know what to do or say or think and would likely need a change of underwear. When we talk about it though she tells me, always that how she gets through it is by focusing on God. In her own words, “If I were to look at everything going on around me I would despair and give up. I can only focus on God and that gives me the strength to move forward.” As a side note, God has given her a love for the people of Kenya and Africa as a whole and they love her too.
Right now we need that same focus or all we see is evil, corruption, hate and strife. Focus on God for He is good and He desires to give you peace. John 16:33 says, “In this world you will have trouble, but take heart for I have overcome the world.” We will have trouble and while we cannot ignore it entirely it does not have to be our focus. He has overcome the world and by focusing on Him we can find peace that surpasses all understanding. And right now, we NEED it!
I do not look at the media anymore; they have become a bed of lies and a mountain of evil. All of them, from CNN to Fox News have an agenda they are pushing and so they twist and mold the facts to fit their narrative. Sometimes they don’t even twist the facts and they just outright lie to you to get you to believe their narrative. After all, and let’s be honest, how likely are we to go fact check them or do our own research on the subject? I certainly don’t do those things.
As if that isn’t enough we have social media, which I have long since removed myself from. Facebook and Twitter are censoring anything that doesn’t fit their agenda and trying to disguise it as censoring hate speech. On top of that social media is a breeding ground for hatred and division. It drives us apart and reinforces our hate for ‘the other side.’ I will have nothing to do with them any longer.
I am not saying that you must remove yourself from all this; some of you may have an assignment to be watching what is going on so you can pray to counter the enemy’s lies. For others, such as myself these things destroy my focus and bring despair. If you are in the same boat as me I would urge you to turn from these things. Get off social media, stop watching the media, and just focus on the Lord. Pray for the nation, the world, your mental state and for others and otherwise just bask in His presence.
