Elijah: old school prophetic guy, Jezebel’s mortal enemy, believed in God so hard that God set a water-soaked altar of rocks ablaze, and finally gets taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire. I’m pretty sure we’ve all heard sermons and teachings on Elijah before and for good reason. You may be wondering what I can bring to the table that is new and exciting. I can’t promise you anything like that, but instead I’m here to show how relevant he is to today.

For that we need to look no further than his enemy, Jezebel. Jezebel was not only a seductress but a worshiper of Baal. She put the prophets of the Lord to death and tried to kill Elijah, forcing him into hiding. If you were willing to do what you were told by Jezebel you could give lip service to being a prophet of God but let’s be honest, you weren’t really, just someone who wanted to save their own skin. Also, and this is very relevant, part of the worship of Baal was child sacrifice. King Ahab, Jezebel’s husband who turned to Baal after marrying her, sacrificed his firstborn son as well as his youngest son to rebuild Jerusalem.

Call abortion by whatever pretty names you want but God calls it murder and any who participate in it, whether the mothers or the doctors and nurses are sacrificing children on the altar of Baal. You will not find anywhere in the Bible any justification for the killing of the unborn. Remember each life He created is special and unique and He had a plan for each one. When you take that life you remove that future and what right do you have to take away what He has spoken?

Jezebel even now controls our nation through her laws and those who seek to oppose God and His followers. We are condemned, put down, our churches closed, but praised when we become more ‘inclusive’ by accepting biblically unacceptable behavior and lifestyles. Our history is being re-written to remove the Christian influence and beliefs our founding fathers held and had in mind when forming this nation and government.

They even have a back-up plan by also making us hate our own country, changing our history to make us seem like the bad guys so we will want to be different. We are told than that we must conform to progressive, humanistic ideals if we want to be different and truly wonderful. History, true history will bear out that this has never and will never work. Ultimately it destroys a nation from within through moral corruption and brings about collapse.

How do we fight this and where does Elijah come in all this? The song ‘Days of Elijah’ has a verse that I believe tells us the answer. To quote, “These are the days of Elijah, declaring the word of the Lord.” Boom. Elijah spoke out against Jezebel and the followers of Baal all his days. The Lord saved his life and was faithful to his faithful servant, never abandoning him. Elijah always declared the word of the Lord and what happened to Israel who had followed Baal? A massive famine that lasted 3 years and was so bad the king himself had to go and look for places where grass might still be growing so their horses and cattle didn’t die. People starved to death for lack of food.

Only after Elijah, following God’s command confronted Ahab, went head-to-head with the prophets of Baal, did the whole water-soaked altar thing, killed the prophets of Baal and showed people the true power of God did the famine end. This is not me saying we need to go kill all the people who oppose us. If you were hoping I’d say that put your knife down; God wants restoration and reconciliation for everyone, so we pray for their salvation instead.

What I am saying is we fight this through praying and warring in the spirit and speaking His word and the truth. We do not back down, and we do not conform to the society Jezebel seeks to build. It may get ugly, but if we give up we let Jezebel reign in our nation and that only ends one way, our downfall as a nation. Remember what happened to Israel as they kept sinning and worshiping false gods, they were given to their enemies.

One last thing to remember with Elijah. Though he did not personally kill Jezebel he anointed the one who ultimately did, Jehu. He anointed Jehu to be the next king and Jehu brought down Jezebel. As many know God is raising a remnant of His people who will not lie down to the evil that threatens us. As they are raised He calls His Elijah’s to come forth, raise, prepare, and anoint the next generation to help in the fight. One day they will take over our fight and finish what we started.
