Anyone who has known me for any length of time knows I will often quote or say, “May his/her tribe increase.” I also would sign off correspondence with “The Hunter Tribe.” I wondered at times why I did that because my heritage did not include any known lineage of tribal connections.

Yet GOD chose a nation broken into 12 tribes as the apple of HIS eye. Revelations refers to these tribes being included in the end of time as we know it on this earth. Even today, people research what tribe they are descendants of. In our Western mindset, that is an enigma. We are known by our name or position.

With the standoff in ND of the Native Americans with our government, I have been pondering a lot about tribes. Also, because Kenya is tribal, my interest is piqued watching tribal action in ND. I am no expert or even very knowledgeable on the subject.I just want to give some observations and facts I do know.

Kenya has 42 tribes. Each has their own language, weapons, traditions, and culture. When you get a home, you are known by the tribe you hail from. Yet they all are Kenyan and speak Kiswahili and English. When conflict arises from a political race, property or animals, which are their wealth, tribal delineation crystallizes.

I lived in ND in the 1970s. It is sadly where I first really began to see Native tribes. What I observed did not align with what I learned in history. I loved that when, as a child, I would curl up with my siblings and listen to my mom read the Little House on the Prairie series. We were safe and warm. It was not a battle for the West we even thought of. We saw it through the eyes of the “pioneer.”

As an adult living and walking on this land portrayed in these books, I began to feel and see it through the eyes of the protector of the land and animals, The Native American. Talk about having lived in a mindset that was narrow and unbending. …

As I have grown more intimate with my CREATOR, I recognize these tribes love this land and the animals inhabiting the region. They truly know the value of pure water, good resources from the earth and the dependency on the animal kingdom for food and shelter.

Did not GOD give man dominion over the earth and the animal kingdom? We are to partner with HIM for its care. I see the Native American tribes attempting to do just that.

The federal government recognizes five tribes in ND. Treaties like vows have no room for dissolving. Always good comes from rottenness when we appeal to heaven. For the first time enemy, tribes are unifying. They are building a longhouse to establish that they are here for the winter. Babies are being born in the traditional way on the protest line. Healing dances are being danced to the cadence of the drum. Even thousands of buffalo gathered on the protest perimeter. An eagle came and allowed itself to be touched.

Israel tribes, African tribes and Native Americans are the Davids in the face of Goliath. GOD has never abandoned us in the face of incredible odds. May you see with a prophetic eye what is happening?
