Silence, Stillness, Solitude, Secret Place, and the Supernatural
By: Hannah S. Hunter
Psalms 107:29-30,41-43(NLT) “He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. What a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into harbor! But he rescues the poor from trouble and increases their families like flocks of sheep. The godly will see these things and be glad, while the wicked are struck silent. Those who are wise will take all this to heart. They will see in our history the faithful love of the Lord.”
Sunday, I had just finished up eighteen straight days of someone being in my home overnight or preparing for someone who left in the morning and was getting a new guest by night fall. Daily I have either a training class, broadcast, class for grandbabies or my own class to learn Kiswahili in my living room. In addition, the maintenance of the house, hauling water, handwashing laundry, and keeping ahead of the mud is done early before the day begins.
Dan wisely told me I either had to go away to a hotel or do something refreshing. All classes and broadcasts were cancelled, and the grandbabies were not allowed to stand at my window an appeal for balloons or biscuits(cookies). Since I will be going stateside after a year except for few weeks over Christmas I opted to take the time in my own home.
Being social it is not easy to withdraw. Needing others voices and touch of our loved ones we must balance all these things when still in the compound and hearing life go on.
Silence is an absence of sound. Silence is a choice. Enables us to listen and hear more effectively. There is not verbal in the atmosphere. It allows us to tune into the other senses. It lowers our blood pressure, boosts our immune system, and allows growth of new cells- especially in our brains.
Revelations eight talks about as Jesus was about to open the seal there was silence in heaven for the space of a half hour. What was impressed on me in that verse was it was not still in heaven. Silence and stillness do not necessarily go hand in hand. While the silence was in place there was much activity of preparation.
Silence without stillness can cause a negative outcome. If silence is a spawn of anger or withdrawal it can be harmful. Yet listening to silence awakens a dimension of stillness. Stillness lets you tune into silence.
If stillness becomes a close companion of silence it will open, you to a new dimension of the supernatural. Stillness is state of being quiet, calm, inactivity, soundlessness, hush, lull. You slow your breathing and it activates your parasympathetic system. Other senses are heightened. At the meeting of these two, rising thoughts and emotions do not get the upper hand or drive your actions.
Solitude is required to disengage with the daily stimuli and engage with yourself in your inner man and with the Trinity of heaven.!” Forced solitude as in prisons can have a negative affect because all the other elements of silence, and stillness are not in place nor aligned as they should be with heaven.
Having a secret place is the keystone for the other three. It is by invitation only. Exclusive not inclusive. There the body, soul, and spirit experiences downloads, transfers, and downloads. Here there are periods of hushed silence and stillness. Solitude from the enemy or any other outside influences. We begin to walk out the supernatural in ways we never imagined. We walk truly then in the real dimension set down before us. It is truth that the things of this earth will grow strangely dim in this dimension and walk.
The storm is only a whisper, all waves are calm, and He places us in a safe harbor. May we know and incorporate all these four elements into our daily lives so we can be in the perfect peace Isaiah talks about and be restored and gain our strength as the Psalms promises. Shalom my brethren.
