Odyssey Observations
By: Hannah S. Hunter
I want to say upfront I am traveling and will not post a blog again until October. Did you ever hand upside and feel the rush of blood to your head and your pigtails and dress were pulled by gravity toward the ground? Everyone knew what your underwear looked like. Then you tried to read something that was backwards, upside, and out of order. How I found USA on arrival.
I left my land July 2018 for life in Kenya full time. I returned to USA briefly in December for the holidays. I have been in Africa for 14 months. I could only hear reports and see posted videos of my birth nation.
Kenya had her lockdowns, curfews, shortages, and abuse of power. Yet the people pulled together. Community is strong in this land called Kenya. Covid did not touch our county. For the first time, I believe in history, the restrictions for international travel were harsher if your origin of departure was Europe. Airline website posted NO African countries as a restriction.
Even though millions of dollars tempted the leaders of our African to fix numbers the Lord defended us, and truth is emerging. Far less cases and great is the rate of recovery. I have a theory as a critical nurse on the ground. The haters can rage and gnash their teeth. This is not a claim or scientific expert opinion just a woman who lives and works on this soil.
Almost every African has had malaria in their lifetime and been treated with quinine or a derivative. I believe it gave them a resistance. I know WHO and the powers that be are discounting and trying to disqualify hydroxychloroquine. When you do clinics in Africa you can purchase drugs if you are qualified and have funds. Now when you walk in any chemist and on inquiry fear and refusal comes.
Social distancing and mandatory masking as your travel across the globe. Marks on the floors tell you where to stand. Sneeze guards everywhere. You board and deplane by rows. Yet numerous times you are asked to lower your mask for identification. If the flight is full you are on your neighbor’s lap for duration of eight plus hour flight.
How grieved I was to land in my nation to see lack of eye contact, muted conversations, and no touch except the frisking by the TSA. Fear, sadness, and dread sprinkled with huge amounts of hopeless.
Normal is not the normal of even one year ago. The global regression began while I was in Africa. This is not the American I left. I know some will be angry I say this. Our extravagant lifestyles and entitlement needed to die. We are too me oriented and in mercy GOD is waking us to align with Him to prepare us for the greatest awakening. Weddings, graduations, parties, vacations all have to be re-evaluated. NO matter where you go you are an ambassador to the King of Kings.
American churches to be prepared to defy when the government goes against the Word of God. We must prepare to take it to the streets or go underground. Weekly I had to settle myself to be pulled from the pulpit for what I was saying or because of civil disobedience. Comfort and compromise cannot be our portion. Our children are watching.
We have left them a mess with our silence in the last generation. It is not too late to rise up and take courage in HIS strength to reclaim the inheritance of this hallowed ground. Make right the wrongs and restore the foundations in repentance and righteousness.
Lines are becoming very clear that even the blind will know. Sadly, I observe tribal violence so deeply embedded in the Kenyan culture. It divided a nation that she cannot rise united and drive off the interlopers coming to steal her inheritance and resources. Through prayer, repentance, and hard work in the foundations is changing that.
We are descending into that as a nation. IF we do not act now, we shall see a civil war far worse than our first. That war is still the costliest in our history. So many wounds and curses left undealt with. Yet in the midst the great revival and awakening came to heal our land and bring a balm to painful wounds.
Prayer and blessings must come from our lips. Many leaders here defy logic and confuse me with their decisions and rhetoric. Yet my job is to pray for their salvation and wisdom. Words have ripped the church apart and put enmity where there should be brotherhood. November is my departure time. What will I leave and what can I report to my land of Kenya who watches and prays for USA.
